She shines, and bounces, and smiles, and dances
And opens a magic box chock-full of chances
But don’t ever dare let your mind go astray
‘Cause she’ll silently turn and tiptoe away.

The clocks have stopped and the sky is smiling on the yellow-brown leaves that won’t quite start falling, and she leans and she glances all over the plain, and she’s happy and glad: one more day without rain. Just the breezes that touch her hair like lovers and the balance that, right here and now, the world offers.

Brian was not an original guy. When he saw the glove, the first two thoughts that went through his head were surely the most obvious…
“Dude! Thank God this is behind glass.”
“Somebody’s right hand must be pretty damn cold now.”

More material from Hayley’s photo session on October 17th 2010. Sometimes we feel like sleepwalking through our time on Earth. Sometimes we feel like existing where life used to hold our souls in place. We need to wake up. Smell the rain. Feel the touch of the sun on our skins. These were taken in an untrodden side street.

In autumn 2010, a charming and talented young lady found her way to Montreal to gather new experiences. Hayley met me while browsing Craigslist for a computer screen to buy, and stayed in touch for a photo session. This was a sunny Saturday in mid-October. Those blessed fresh days of autumn are fleeting. Here’s a reminder and a fresh set of scenes from stories never written.

You wouldn’t say Mark Gillespie‘s music is hard to pigeonhole: his style can easily be classified as melodic rock with funk influences. Yet, this British busker performing across Germany, one of my favourite artists, is far from ordinary: his creativity, humour and improv talents turn his shows into vibrant, personal, truly joyful events.
His poetic lyrics belong to songs that unfold a plethora of styles to those who care to stay and listen. Some will sound like pure Jazz, others are reminiscent of Nirvana, an 8-minute jam session is followed by blues, then a quick and witty acoustic number.
Highly recommended artist if you’re in Germany.

A long walk had sent a gratifying fatigue into our weary bones when we laid our eyes on the table smiling from beyond the glass. It was like a ray of sunshine had bathed it especially to invite us in. What we felt wasn’t mere hunger. It was the excited anticipation of rich, sensuous delight.

Winter held the city in its firm grip when these musicians kept the fire of blues rock burning inside. I had just arrived in Canada, took the Metro across Montreal and walked the frozen streets to reach these rehearsal spaces, soon captivated by the energy of the band. This was in January 2008.

Colours and lights danced on their faces like fire. Their dreams had alighted only to pick up their souls and take them any place they fancied.

All the way up till here, we had pushed forward unwavering, and there we stood, breathing flatly, gazing deep into the heart of winter. We were children awakening from harmonica dreams that had lit up our nights, to the unforgiving grey of the days remaining.
And we sat down and we clung to each other like ice crystals and snowflakes, like nature had designed. And we stared in awe at the infinite beauty and peace.
